The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) may once again allow non-Karnataka students to write Common Entrance Test (CET). With the government batting for a unified CET, private colleges have demanded the inclusion of non-Karnataka students in the arguement and the former is said to have okayed the proposal.

Chairman from the Forum for Unaided Engineering Colleges, B T Lakshman said, “We have given choices for our colleges to join CET or Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges (COMED). Most of the colleges are ready to join CET provided there were a provision for non-Karnataka students. During Wednesday’s meet, KEA officials have favoured such a proposal.”

Referring to last year’s seat-sharing ratio, he said, “For example, last year 50 per cent of our engineering seats were available for students through CET while 15 per cent was reserved for NRI students and 10 per cent for management quota.

The rest of the seats were filled through COMED. Now, we are ready to fill these 25 per cent seats with non-Karnataka students, but there will be another fee structure.”
